The Dominance Factor

How Knowing Your Dominant Eye, Ear, Brain, Hand & Foot Can Improve Your Learning

2nd Edition, Revised and Enlarged

Carla Hannaford, Ph.D.

Carla Hannaford's groundbreaking work on right/left brain dominance and learning. Our learning styles or learning preferences are influenced by our bodily patterns of lateral dominance. If you are right brain dominant and left handed, do you have different tendencies than someone who is left brain dominant and right handed? The answer is yes. Scientists, educators, and psychologists have long suspected there are links between the side of the body we favor for seeing, hearing, touching, and moving and the way we think, learn, work, play, and relate to others. Here at last is a book by a neuroscientist that explains these linkages — why it is so important to understand them — and how to use this self-knowledge.

Your Dominance Profile is a key for unlocking your potential, and for understanding and overcoming barriers to learning and performing at your highest level. The Dominance Factor clearly explains a method for determining your Profile that is simple, non-invasive and easy to learn.

Each of the thirty-two different Dominance Profiles are clearly explained providing a wonderful resource to be consulted both for insight and for learning strategies. Additionally Dr. Hannaford describes examples and tips for working together with people of different Dominance Profiles.

This is a book for teachers, parents, and all of us who need to understand what makes ourselves and others tick.

"I have done dominance testing for nearly every pupil I have taught. Dominance testing lets a teacher or parent know what is likely to be the best way to reach any given learner. Then communication can happen from the outset and there are no false starts. It is safest and most efficient to build on a pupil's strengths before trying to eliminate weaknesses. We had best take Carla Hannaford's advice and honour one another's differences. "
